Two Convicts Denied New Trials in First Degree Murder Case
Huston Johnson and Bertha Abernathy alias Bertha Blunt were refused new trials and sentenced this morning by Judge James A. Chambers. Johnson received life in a Western penitentiary for the murder of Charles McMurry. Abernathy received life imprisonment and placement at the State Industrial Home in Muncy, Pa for the shooting of John Henry King. Attorneys Martin and Rhodes urged leniency but the court held it had no jurisdiction beyond the verdict and sentence.

Driver Escapes Death In Train Truck Crash
Robert Cover of R D No 3 Pulaski was injured when his loaded limestone truck was struck by a New Castle to Orrville passenger train on a crossing west of Edenburg at 7 13 this morning. He was rushed to Jameson Memorial hospital with nonlife threatening injuries and no internal damage noted. Fire Threatens Kinzua Viaduct As Pennsylvania Inferno Rages
A forest fire near Kane Pennsylvania endangers the Kinzua Viaduct about eleven miles east of town.
