Four persons were injured, two seriously, when their sedan overturned on the Wilmington road near the Beerbower barn beyond Johnston woods. Four youths from prominent families are feared drowned after their speed boat struck the City of Holland excursion liner near Gold's Point last night. Two others were rescued in critical condition and unable to aid in the inquiry as investigators and volunteers comb for bodies. Investigators say the boat surged forward and collided with the steamer, while witnesses describe a sudden loss of control in the cruise.

A major waterfront blaze in Buffalo, New Jersey, killed one person and injured two seriously with 28 others burned or hurt. Damage is estimated at $1,250,000 as three boats, including the fireboat Gratten, were destroyed and a tanker valued at $500,000 exploded.
BELLEFONTE PA four inmates escape from a Rockview penitentiary work gang and remain at large after a nightlong search. Officials believe they hid on Nittany Mountain and may have climbed higher slopes to avoid capture. The escapees are Robert M Ruane William De Young Harry Allen and Joseph Cetinski. They were part of a crew repairing a reservoir and were not missed for about thirty minutes.

Crooksville Ohio July 28 a small telephone mouthpiece connected to the outdoor aerial caused the town radio mystery. R W Hull confessed that he bought the device in Brooklyn and told prominent citizens about it leading to a village wide spoof. Nearly 20 men joined in a mock broadcast while others performed as news leaked. Hull joked he had more mouthpieces left promising further publicity for Crooksville’s curious episode.
Republican campaign leaders express confidence that Herbert Hoover will pledge to maintain the tariff system in his acceptance address. Tariff advocates Barbour and Faubel of the American Tariff League pledge full support to National Chairman Work. President hopeful Herbert Hoover begins a four day trip through Northern California and Oregon with a fishing focus. He travels with 38 companions to fish the Klamath headwaters near the Oregon line and see redwood forests and the Pacific. returns to California for more fishing before a speech in August.

Houston July 28 five armed convicts escaped after a jail break at the Imperial state farm near Sugarland. Guard Henry Ward was killed as Jim Jester was disarmed. Deputy Sheriff Henry Dell and Tom Davis were wounded during a pursuit on the highway. two convicts were captured and two remained at large in dense brush.
Thousands of minnows and yellow perch and other fish float dead in Lake Erie near Erie Pennsylvania. Authorities debate causes from trap net size to fungus growth and acid dumping by nearby plants. Beach crews struggle to cope with the overwhelming stench and mass washups.
In Mercer county a coordinated operation by 30 officers including 11 federal prohibition agents and state police conducted raids on 33 clubs in Sharon Farrell and Greenville. Nineteen arrests were made as searches yielded no liquor in many alleged speakeasies and dens. The action, the largest since Prohibition began, followed fresh informant tips and targeted illicit establishments.
New Bedford Mass July 28 400 police from local and surrounding cities mobilized to stop a proposed textile workers parade led by radicals amid rain. Coast artillery from Camp Devens briefed and held in reserve at state armory. One hundred fifty men stationed. 275 local and 149 outside officers on duty across the river.
