Officials discuss creating a municipal swimming area along the Neshannonk Shenango rivers to relieve heat. Though a temporary dam plan is debated, no action has been taken and residents seek a safe public swim site near the city core.
W. W. Tyler serves as mayor of New Castle in the absence of Mayor Newell who is in New York. Tyler, vice president of the city council, will lead city affairs until Saturday while Newell attends a council junket to review fire fighting apparatus. Tyler did not join the trip.
A columnist argues selfishness is inherent in lower animals and has no place in an era of Brotherhood of Man. He states cities reflect their people and that cooperation is key for municipal success. He urges individuals to buy homes and support local institutions to aid the community.
Trinity church members, Sunday school and choir drew about four hundred attendees for the annual outing at Cascade Park. Rev Dr Roscamp will preach on life as drama next Sunday morning at St Andrews chapel. He argues that life is a romance with all people as dramatists and every moment a stage entrance or exit. The talk promises a thought provoking examination of the human condition.

Frank Johnson caught a 7 1/2 pound muscallonge at Kennedy's mills on Thursday morning. He struggled to land the fish with the hook and, with help from Miss Ruth Genkinger, finally reeled it in using a net.
Last night two burglaries were reported on Moravia street. Police suspect two strangers seen near the Leroy hotel saloon on Long avenue. At Jim Fuigi 1121 Moravia street cigarettes cheese bologna and bread were stolen via a forced side door. At Joseph Beshara 1207 Moravia street five pairs of shoes three suits of clothes an Elgin watch and other items were taken.
Four Black people who fatally hurt two men in Winnie Maryland fled to Laurel and barricaded a house. They refused surrender and a siege followed as police sought hazardous materials to tear down the barrier. An officer was struck and a spectator injured while two attackers were captured. The others escaped into the woods and were later surrounded again.
