Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia after Germany declines mediation. Officials say no halt to hostilities even if demands met. London July 28. British experts foresee air forces shaping early European conflict with fleets of airships and aeroplanes. Estimates place Britain at 750 military aircraft, Germany over 500, Russia 300, Austria 150, Italy 200, while Britain’s air strength appears smallest among major powers.
