City Council faces belt tightening to balance year
City officials warned last night that tighter spending is needed to end the six million dollar city budget in balance. Business administrator William G Tallman reported 54.29 percent of the 1979 budget spent by midyear, 2.2 percent more than last year. Municipal garage remains underfunded with only 25 percent of its budget left and $41,370 budgeted versus $53,735 spent in 1978. An extra 50,000 to 75,000 will be required in 1980 for workers compensation, on top of a 500,000 to 600,000 rise in other items.
