E C Hoenstine and LeRoy Hoenstine of Wurtemburg volunteer fire department found eight year old Richard Hoak in Connoquenessing creek near the Ewing Park bridge at 4 PM. Deputy Coroner Charles E Allen said the boy had drowned. The bread loaf method without salt was used as guidance from Burns and proved successful in this case.

More Propane Gas Tanks Are Being Built Near Ellwood City
Construction is under way on sixteen additional propane tanks near Ellwood City. Thomas J. Foley of New Castle reports the 16 tanks completed in December 1946 were in use by February 1947. Each tank stands 9 feet high and 70 feet long with a 30 000 gallon capacity. About 45 tank cars from Texas supply the gas. Groundwork has begun for a second group of sixteen tanks, with rapid progress expected. The gas augments local winter supplies.

Pittsburgh Dental Student and Painter Die in Apparent Suicide
Edward Gales a 25 year old University of Pittsburgh dental student and Glenn Leffler 26 a part time painter and World War II veteran were found shot to death in what police described as murder and death by own action. Detective James Kelly stated there was no motive and that Gales likely shot Leffler then killed himself. Leffler left a two year old daughter and Gales was engaged to be married. The gun reportedly belonged to Gales and the bodies were found at the foot of a stairway with feet pointing upstairs.
