Slander Suit Filed Against Mrs. Marguerite Du Pont Lee

Rev Dr William T Reynolds former rector filed a $100000 slander suit against Marguerite Du Pont Lee of the Delaware Du Ponts in Washington on July 1. The complaint says Lee interrupted a healing service and called Reynolds drunk while denouncing Maude B Ford and alleging misconduct by another. Lee, sister of Alfred I Du Pont and cousin of Senator Coleman Du Pont, had supported Reynolds’ church in the past. Reynolds formerly led Trinity Church in Newcastle.

Prison Barns Damaged by Fire at Eastern Penitentiary

Fire destroyed the main barn at the Eastern Penitentiary near Graterford, with 19 convicts acting as firefighters under Capt. Elmer Leithleiser. About 185 inmates in parracks were kept away as five horses died and a dozen others were saved. Damage estimated around $20,000.

Man Found Dead Hanged in Barn in Union Township

A 64 year old man, Gaddowicz or Gaddowles, of Oakland district, Union township, was found dead in a barn near his home after his wife searched for him at supper. The body hung from a door staple four feet from the ground, suggesting suicide. Coroner J P Caldwell investigated with little indication of motive. He had worked at Carnegie Steel and is survived by his widow and five children.

Part Of Nungesser's Plane Believed Discovered

A wrecked airplane portion bearing markings like the White Bird tied to Charles Nungesser and Francois Coli was found at Blaavand on Jutland's west coast. They disappeared after departing Paris for New York on May 8 1927. earlier searches for them in Eastern Canada failed to find any trace.

Tragedy Ends In Double Suicide In Chicago

Former New Castle residents Louis Diamond 50 and estranged wife Mary were the victims of a fatal shooting in her Chicago apartment as Diamond, visiting for reconciliation, allegedly shot Mary and then killed himself. Diamond, employed at a Whiting Ind steel foundry, had been despondent about health and work. He had returned to his wife for one last chance, leaving North Mill street days earlier, with three children involved. The inquest opened in Chicago today. further details continued on page two.

Probe In Train Accident At Pittsburgh

Investigation began in Pittsburgh after a train collision injured many as two freight cars sideswiped an excursion train in Manchester yards. More than 1,000 Pennsylvania Railroad employees and their families returning from Cantor, Ohio, to the outing were endangered. The engineer could not check the train.

Carnegie Officials Visit Local Plant

The Carnegie Steel general bessemer committee, hosted by Robert J. Tully, manager of the local plant, dined in The Castle ton Crystal ball room. They plan a nationwide plant tour with a stop in Youngstown this afternoon and then western plants. A Carnegie Steel chemistry committee also visited the Incal plant.

River packet race winner defends new laurels

River packet Chris Greene won a 20 mile race up the Ohio from Cincinnati to Richmond over Betsy Ann in a dramatic revival of river boat racing. Capt Mo Irwin of the Senator Cordill challenged to defend the title with a $500 wager. The Chris Greene finished in two hours 15 minutes, Betsy Ann two hours 17 minutes, drawing thousands to the riverbank.
