Giant Eagle to Build New Shenango Store
Giant Eagle plans a May opening for a 65,000 square foot store and shopping center on Route 422 in Shenango Township. The new site will include Dress for Success dry cleaning, Eagle’s Nest child care, a drive through pharmacy, Iggle Video, a cafe and bank, with Jed Cohen of Kappa Properties saying the store will be bigger and better for the community. The existing location will be vacated as the firm buys 17.5 acres, largely from the Troggio family, southwest of the current Giant Eagle.

Thief Steals Thompson Submachine Gun From Sheriff Office
A Thompson .45 caliber submachine gun was stolen from a display case in Lawrence County Sheriff's Office last night. Sheriff Robert L. Clark said the weapon was operational but not loaded, valued at about $8,000, and purchased in 1950. Entry was gained by breaking a door pane. a police dog found no one inside. The gun, no longer in use, could fire 850 rounds per minute and cost $20 per 50 shells to replace. The ATF will assist in the investigation. informants told to contact the sheriff.

Inmate Hangs Self at County Jail in Lawrence County
A 25 year old inmate died after hanging himself with a bed sheet at Lawrence County jail. He was booked at 3 45 p m and found by staff during a routine check shortly before 9 p m. He was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh and pronounced dead shortly before 6 a m. Investigations by New Castle Police Department and state Department of Corrections have been notified.
