City marks 150th anniversary with National Night Out in New Castle
Lawrence County residents will attend two National Night Out events on August 5 in downtown New Castle. The free block party at 303 E. North St. runs 5 30 p m to 8 p m and is led by the Elm Street Community with the police department hosting an open house at the station. The event features free hot dogs games face painting water balloons a balloon artist and a DJ with police demonstrations and tours of the station. Partners include Bible Way Church of God in Christ Police Leading Active Youth state police New Castle Fire Department and DON Services. National Night Out began in 1984 in the Philadelphia area with the first event drawing 2 5.

Plain Grove building marks 150 years hosting local business

Since 2006 Maria’s Country Store has anchored the site, with history found in receipts, bottles, post office gear, and old gun ammunition.
