Western Pennsylvania reports partly cloudy hazy warm humid conditions with morning fog and a chance of afternoon and evening thundershowers today and tomorrow with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s.

City Councilman Richard Flannery disputes a News article on six month spending and tax receipts, predicting an 80 000 to 100 000 deficit if revenues stay near projections. The council also approves purchases and contracts including a transit service truck, street paving, storm sewer work, a golf course clubhouse, and traffic changes while delaying a loading zone removal.

The Senate narrowly approved a measure to raise the minimum wage to 2 dollars an hour within 60 days and 2.20 dollars later, covering an estimated 6.1 million workers and extending benefits to 7.4 million more, with McGovern casting a pivotal but not decisive vote. The bill faces reconciliation with the House and a possible presidential signature.
Ellwood City Mayor Wesley I Evans and 13 volunteers traveled to Wilkes-Barre to assist the Baptist Church with cleanup after a severe flood. They stayed at Sunnybrook Camp in East Stroudsburg and worked four days removing debris, amid widespread destruction including 45 percent of homes and most pharmacies damaged. The Susquehanna River dike failed at the south end, letting 10 feet of floodwater inundate the city, with the river cresting at 41 feet.
