Navy to Escort Kuwaiti Tanker Through Hormuz This Week
UPI reports a U S warship will shepherd a Kuwaiti tanker through the Strait of Hormuz this week under rules of engagement aimed at countering threats from Iran. Ships in Omani waters must radio their name registry and destination while Iran may use traffic control data to identify vessels headed to Iraq or Kuwait. The escort aims to reach Kuwait with oil or refined products, with captains authorized to open fire only to counter imminent danger and after necessary approvals.

Postal Service seeks contract by midnight
Washington UPI The U S Postal Service and negotiators for two unions representing 579 000 postal workers pushed toward a three year contract deadline at midnight amid acrimony over terms of a parallel pact with the Mail Handlers union. The two unions NALC and APWU halted talks after opposing the Postal Service plan to shift jurisdiction and membership to the Mail Handlers group. A memorandum of understanding later ended the walkout and satisfied concerns about the Mail Handlers agreement, though details were not released.

Former national security adviser John Poindexter told the Iran Contra hearings he accepts responsibility for Norths arms resupply efforts while saying he knew few details. Yard named NOW president vows to halt Bork nomination
Molly Yard became president-elect of the National Organization for Women at a news conference in Philadelphia. She said NOW will mobilize its 150,000 members in streets and courts to oppose Reagan policies and Bork's Supreme Court nomination over abortion and women's rights issues. Yard, from Ligonier, called Bork a neanderthal and pledged to defend Roe v. Wade.

Eckert Bridge Road to reopen for emergency use only
Eckert Bridge Road at McConnell’s Mill State Park will get limited repairs and reopen for emergency vehicle use. Gates will block regular traffic. one lane will be restored in washed and slipped areas. DER will handle gatekeeping with park staff and fire departments holding keys. The road has deteriorated from drainage problems and cliffside erosion since 1979.
