German forces massed pontoons and attacked near Vaux and Champagne frontlines. Americans counter attacked driving back troops, establishing new lines near Chateau Thierry and taking German prisoners as the German assault faltered.
Paris reports the fifth German offensive on a 50 mile arc from Chateau Thierry to Main de Massiges. Americans brigaded with French defend sectors around Chateau Thierry and east of the Marne as German forces cross the Marne and strike toward Rheims. Allied positions sustain heavy assaults with strong French resistance and costly German losses.
The German assault along a fifty mile front from Chateau Thierry to mid Champagne intensifies as Americans reinforce the Marne line east and west of Chateau Thierry. Rheims becomes central as German aims include capturing Rheims and severing rail links toward Paris. The May 27 drive began the latest push in a year of western front offensives.
A fine bull from Norman Breaden Reno’s Shenango township stock farm leaped a fence and charged two work horses, goring them severely. Four or five men restrained the animal with pitchforks and clubs and it was chained in a pen, with likely euthanasia to follow.

City police list residents deemed not to work and will round up those not engaged in honorable labor. Parasitic gamblers who rely on gambling will be jailed as orders to apply the work or fight rule take effect. Rulings clarify who is affected as authorities proceed.
The government will publish every person connected with German propaganda in the United States. John Jiko 32 Ter race avenue was arrested for disorderly conduct and threatening to kill his boarding mistress Anna Slugolavitz after a Sunday morning fracas. An alarm to the fire station caused Central and Eighth Ward units to respond, only to learn police were needed. Jiko posted a $16 forfeit and was released.
American forces in France fight to repel German attempts to break through allied lines and threaten Paris. High officers note scarce reports but press summaries and known facts show U S troops are stronger, better armed, and able to withstand assaults, a month after earlier fighting.
