Congress prepared to decide if daylight saving law continues with the president’s veto likely sustained. A repeal requires two thirds to override, and the day’s schedule also includes Prohibition enforcement bill readings and amendments.
Judge Emery hears testimony today in the equity suit of C. H. and W. A. Gould against T. H. Demas and Constable F. E. Cole of Ellwood City. Plaintiffs allege purchase of property from Demas via S. Y. Douds for 15000 dollars with 500 dollars down and claim a deed was not made after balance was offered. A landlord's warrant was issued on David Cartwright. Plaintiffs say they were lessees and the levied property belonged to them.
Miss Edyth Davidson sailed from France on the Touraine Saturday July 12, per a cablegram to Mr and Mrs J Watt Davidson of East Washington Street. On July 19 Mr and Mrs J Watt Davidson Mr and Mrs George Miles and daughter Edith Frances of Adams Street will leave for New York to meet Miss Davidson. No word yet on the sailing times for Misses Cora Ritchie or Eva Davidson.
In Elm Grove West Virginia residents voted Saturday in favor of Sunday baseball. The report also notes a series of violent incidents including hangings and accidental deaths in nearby towns, plus local civic updates and a major coal production forecast.
Youngstown reports a forthcoming eight cent car fare under the service at cost franchise due to rising operating costs. Current fare stands at six cents with a transfer charge of one cent.
E L Perkins of Eastland Texas, reportedly the world’s richest Gob, will finish his four year navy enlistment. A 6,000 barrel oil well struck on his farm may push his income toward a million dollars yearly. Perkins plans to use his wealth for “the people and Christianity” after discharge.

Council authorized the city clerk to advertise for bids to resurface Wallace avenue Crawford avenue and part of Croton avenue plus Neal street between Division and Taylor streets. Wallace avenue may use sheet asphalt. An ordinance for Neshannock avenue resurfacing was favorably reported and will pass Friday.

Four people drowned in Pittsburgh area rivers within 36 hours. David Rapp and Thomas Ryan jumped from a skiff in the Allegheny River near a dam and perished. In the Ohio River a steamboat wash overturned a canoe carrying Stanley Labonosky and Edward Katursky, who also died before aid arrived.
Florence Gordon is identified as a 14 year old from Portland Oregon and Charles Matthew Richards is listed as eight days old with an address at 506 East Long Avenue. The brief notice records two infant deaths with minimal context.
Morgantown West Virginia July 14 Thomas Edward Hodges longtime leader of West Virginia University has died at his home at age 60 Hodges served as university president and was a prominent figure in state education.
The General committee of the Welsh Day reunion met at Emmanuel Baptist church to finalize plans for a Saturday event at Cascade Park. Activities include athletic events at 11 am with races and water sports, and a 2 pm program of speaking and singing by Rev. Emrys Thomas at the bandstand, followed by an evening gathering with music and speeches.

Davis and Company v Harper and Platt follows with a $293.40 judgment for the plaintiff after objection to payment by accommodation endorsers. Hays Lithographing v Straw sees the rule absolute and certiorari quashed.
Judge Emery approved a petition to sell real estate filed by attorney R L Wallace guardian of Kenneth McConahy, minor child of Laughry McConahy. Bond of Mont L Riley as guardian of Paul and Leslie McBride approved. Commonwealth v Paul A Kearnes granted mileage and witness fees for Anna Kearnes. Wallace fees in Socrates Mc Connell estate partition set at 180 dollars. Norris minor child Carrie M Norris granted an allowance.
Police were informed by H. Cooper of 620 East Long Avenue that his 1919 Ford touring car with Pennsylvania license 268670 was stolen on Jefferson Street around 6 p m Saturday night.
The City of New Castle filed a complaint with the Public Service Commission asking that a seven cent local fare raise be denied and that the railway be required to repair worn tracks, cars, and brakes. The filing lists strained tracks on West Washington County Line Long Avenue Hamilton Street and Mill Street and urges improvements before any increase.
Guy J. Wadlinger has taken a role in the Cunard Anchor and Donaldson freight department serving Pittsburgh district shippers in the export trade. He previously worked with New York Central lines and recently returned from military service in Europe where he oversaw unloading and shipment of supplies at Brest for the American army. He will work from 712 Smithfield Street and travels to New York to confer with Cunard officials.
Alphonse Tabook was arrested late Saturday night after firing a revolver in the city limits to drive away two suspicious loiterers near his home. Officers Young and Connors responded, detaining him despite his protests and he paid a $25 forfeit.
About one hundred friends of Elmer C. Spencer gathered Saturday at the Pulaski road home of Misses Bessie and Hazel McBride. The returned soldier, soon to depart for St. Paul Minnesota to resume his work, was the evening’s honor guest as games music and other diversions filled the night followed by a late hour lunch.
