Downtown street lights fail in daylight

Early morning reports note city street lights were out in broad daylight in the downtown area though normally they go out after darkness. Meanwhile youths at George Washington Junior High School Motorized planes entertained onlookers as traffic waited.

Indictments Return Against Becks in Cadillac Sales

Seattle AP report says King County grand jury indicted Teamsters President Dave Beck and son Dave Jr. on charges related to profits from selling three Cadillacs owned by the Western Conference of Teamsters. Beck Sr. faces $1,900 pocketing charge. Dave Jr. charged over $4,650 from two more sales. Beck asserts all funds went to the union and pledges witnesses. He questioned conference receipts but expects testimony confirming cash transfers.

Plane crash injures two in Beaver County

A single engine training plane overshot Beaver County Airport and crashed into a valley injuring two Michigan men. Pilot George D. Hall, 26, suffered compound skull fractures and is in Presbyterian Hospital Pittsburgh. Student flyer William J. Merrill Jr. was less seriously hurt.

Vivian Novello 31 of Girard saved three drowning swimmers at Lake Erie beach. She aided Clinton Shillinger 35 and Catherine Wounais 15 to shore, then pulled Robert Shillinger 38 from the water. All were treated. Robert remained hospitalized overnight for shock. Mrs Novello said she did what anyone would do.

Sailplane Comes Apart In Midair Over New York

In Corning New York Francis Hehm 31 of Toledo Ohio was killed when a sailplane piloted by Hehm disintegrated midair during a national soaring contest leg The crash occurred after the glider towed by an airplane connected to Elmira airport and the craft was owned by Richard Schreder of Toledo The Hohms and Rover crew were returning the glider to Toledo and a farmer saw the glider break apart in the sky before the pilots fell to the ground near the New York Pennsylvania line
