City officials report rapid work removing abandoned street car rails on East Long Avenue and expect completion by nightfall. In Pittsburgh on July 12 a motorist, R. E. Ziegler, reported paying forty dollars to a couple posing as distressed motorists. When he stopped, they pointed pistols and stole the cash, driving away in an apparently disabled car that carried them to safety.
Neil Williams city bureau of building clerk reports 97 permits granted since January 1. The city collects 50 cents per permit. The largest project is Citizens Lumber planing mill and a two story brick building planned for Public Square.
Mrs Effie Moorehouse aged 60 wife of Will Moorehouse of New Bedford killed herself with a .38 caliber pistol after setting a fire in her home. The coroner and sister in law described a prolonged illness and despondency. her husband had recently taken a job in Youngstown.

Floods from Paint and Armstrong creeks in Kanawha and Fayette counties left about 800 homeless with an estimated 20 lives lost. State police Red Cross and local relief groups organized aid and rescue camps as communications and transportation remained hampered. Continued on page six.
CHICAGO July 12 President Hoover will not actively participate in the Republican campaign this fall. Everett Sanders, chairman of the party's national committee, announced at campaign headquarters today that the campaign will not be officially launched until the President has been formally notified of his nomination. He said the notification ceremony will be held in early August, probably in the East.
