Irvin B. Blair a former motorman for Pittsburg Harmony Butler New Castle Street Railway sues for 15000 claiming an open switch caused a wreck at Harmony Junction. He alleges negligence by dispatcher C L Osborne and another man who left the switch open, leaving Blair disabled and unable to work.

Old Blue Laws Spark Rift Between Officials in City

In Johnstown on July 11 the Sunday selling crusade strained ties between Mayor Cauffiel and Attorney Frank P. Barnhart, counsel for several ice cream and soda vendors who sold on Sunday despite the mayor's edict. Barnhart called the mayor a contemptible skunk, prompting the mayor to seek Barnhart's arrest on a disorderly conduct charge.

Hearing Called On City Garbage Collector Cohen

City President Tom Dickson announced a formal hearing before the Finance committee next week to determine if H. J. Cohen is meeting his garbage collector contract. Mill St Bridge Will Go Over Another Year

A city committee urged county action on a South Mill Street bridge to allow paving and an approach from that street. Officials said the bridge will be painted this year but no new bridge is planned now. If Gardner Avenue bridge is built, that will be the extent of work this year.

Mount Watterson in eruption Bryan replies to Watterson attack

Lincoln Neb July 11 United Press Bryan's Commoner replies to Col Henry Watterson bitter editorial attack. The paper says Bryan has not sought Watterson's approval and acted for Democratic party and national interests, pursuing positions despite opposition. Bryan claims he has done most of his work without Watterson's aid and awaits the people's verdict in Baltimore.

Taft Taft Taft: Iowa GOP Renews Chicago Platform Debate

Des Moines July 11 delegates at the Republican state platform convention nominated two supreme court justices and tabled a Taft amendment endorsing the Chicago platform. Gov Carroll the only Taft supporter was defeated on the amendment. The platform is progressive endorsing primaries direct election of senators initiative referendum and a woman suffrage referendum. A seventh plank condemns Chicago methods and excuses any voter who won t vote Taft. Roosevelt supporters planned a July 24 state convention to select third party delegates and presidential electors.

Bystander Burned in Battle Royal at Youngstown

Mrs Barbara Stevens bystander was struck by a pan of hot grease hurled by a combatant during a women’s battle royal in Youngstown and badly burned. A carried child was cut on the head. Both woman and child were hospitalized.

Mine disaster at Panama mine claims several lives

At 9 this morning a gas explosion in the Panama mine of the Ben Franklin Coal Co at Moundsville West Virginia trapped 100 workers. Seven dead are believed with two rescued badly burned and others unconscious. Relief crews from Ohio mines rushed to the scene as gas hindered rescue efforts.
