In Beira Mozambique an ill fated Portuguese vessel named Save carrying about 550 aboard ran aground on a sand bank 200 miles north of Beira during a storm. The ship burned after gasoline and ammunition in the forward hold exploded. Reports estimate about 250 deaths though unconfirmed.

Grocer Beaten In Store Robbery Suspect Charged
A 70 year old grocer was beaten in his closed store and is in fair condition with head wounds and possible skull fracture at New Castle Hospital. Anthony Lamancusa of 801 S Jefferson St. is the victim. James McMillian of 122 Division St. is held on charges of aggravated assault and battery and robbery after police report a signed statement from McMillian’s common law wife implicating him. Lamancusa’s niece Dr Nancy Lamancusa treated him at the hospital and police found blood near the cash register but nothing was stolen.
