Sewage woes plague Canyon Street neighborhood

Lawyer James Manolis and about 25 residents in Canyon Street fear years of city neglect have turned their rural heart of New Castle into a costlier mess. Sewage bubbles from a manhole on Boyles Extension and drains into a Shenango River tributary, with up to three feet of sewer water backing into basements after rain. Despite seven years of appeals and frequent inspections, no sustained action has occurred though 300 to 400 feet of sewer line replacement was finally approved.
