Court of Appeals reverses tax lien victory in 1954 case

The U S Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a lower court ruling awarding about 110000 to the city school district and county over 1954 taxes on United Engineering and Foundry Corp leased from the Federal General Services Administration. Tax liens totaled 45000 to the city 60000 to the school district and 12000 to the county.

Grange Queen Crowning Set for Pomona Harvest Royalty

Twelve girls from Lawrence County granges vie for the Pomona Harvest Queen title at the Lawrence County Farm Show on August 17. Becky Martin, last year’s queen from Mahoning Valley Grange, will crown the new queen. Entrants must be 14 to 25, single, and a member of a subordinate grange. they complete a questionnaire, undergo private interviews, and finally face the audience on stage.

Castro Movina To Seize More U.S. Property

Havana reports Premier Fidel Castro’s government moved to expropriate all U.S.-owned sugar mills and other U.S. property in retaliation for possible reductions in Cuba’s sugar quota. The cabinet approved a law allowing nationalization with 30 year bonds payable from excess sugar sales, a measure framed as defending national sovereignty and economic development.
