The Soviet high command acknowledged a wedge driven into the Soviet lines in the Bielgorod sector as German forces attempt a pincers move against the Moscow Rostov rail line. The southern thrust pierced near Bielgorod while Kursk sector saw only limited gains amid heavy German assaults.

In Indianapolis during the Cavalcade of Thrills at the state fairgrounds 12 000 spectators watched Earl M Lucky Teter die after his rocket car leap over a semi truck failed and the car crashed. He suffered a broken neck and internal injuries and was removed from the wreckage after acetylene torches freed him.
Shenango township calls a mass meeting at 8 p m Tuesday at East New Castle fire station to recruit 150 more volunteers for civilian defense duties including auxiliary firemen police air raid wardens fire watchers and messengers headed by Walter R Waddington of the volunteer firemen's organization.
Washington reporter says Donald M. Nelson, head of the War Production Board, indicated he probably will travel to London in August for talks with the U S British combined production and resources board. He cautioned that plans could change with events before then.
Eight German saboteurs captured by the FBI after landing from u boats face trial in Washington before a seven man military commission. They confessed to plans to blow up aluminum plants and rail and power facilities to halt US plane production. Trial expected to last three to four days with a swift verdict.

In the St Clair river a Great Lakes freight collided with a 42 foot cabin cruiser. Mrs Irene Wiseman 40 of Highland Park was confirmed dead. Barbara Bagley 12 and Jacqueline 14 of St Clair Shores were missing and believed drowned. Twelve others aboard the cruiser were injured and owner Thomas Dwyer of Roseville suffered a possible spine fracture. The collision split the cruiser in half.
The Public Utilities Commission in Harrisburg issued a special certificate allowing Thomas R. McComb of New Castle to transport war workers to Ellwood City plants from intermediate points between New Castle and Ellwood City. The permit expires after four months unless a permanent service is approved.
