Hopkins Issues New Ultimatum to Governor Pinchot
Harrisburg July 2 A special session of the legislature to raise funds for relief was considered unavoidable as Hopkins, federal emergency relief administrator, demands Pennsylvania assume its share starting September 1. Hopkins said an additional 10 million dollars will be allocated for August relief then federal aid ends unless the state contributes. Governor Pinchot, who vetoed transferring funds from the motor license, declined to comment. The letter to Pinchot conveyed the decision and urged immediate action. The state has relied on federal funds since liquor store profits failed to materialize. Hopkins allocated 10 million for May, 11.5 million for June, 11 million for July, and 10 million for August with no further aid unless burden is shared. Hopkins preferred to keep contents of the letter private.
