A vehicle on Mahoning Avenue was struck by an engine, sending one auto rider leaping to safety amid the incident. Emergency crews responded as the rider avoided injury by jumping clear, and the scene was secured with minor property damage reported.

Mrs Bertha Sheehan a middle aged patient confined at Mercer sanitarium escaped after midnight and headed toward the railroad tracks in Mercer. She was fatality struck by a northbound train of the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad and died instantly. Sheehan had slipped away just after midnight and her absence had been noted earlier in the night.
U S reports Mexican bandits attacked an American couple at Chocoy 40 miles west of Tampico on June 30. Mrs Thomas Cheney, Mexican born but wife of an American, was shot and killed after recognizing the marauders. Bandits demanded 2000 pesos. Consul Shaw notes protection due to marriage. Authorities in Mexico City instructed to arrest and punish the killers.
Pittsburgh dispatch notes the Western Pennsylvania railroad shopmen strike remains largely mobilized with 90 to 100 percent out at most locations except Altoona and Conway where only a few joined. Central region reports 45 to 76 percent effectiveness. At McKees Rocks NY Central shop 10 percent stayed home. Roughly 41 of 49000 Altoona area workers were on strike. no disorder reported.
Attorney Clyde Gibson presented a writ of habeas corpus petition this morning asking for the release of Carmine Summa Laula Guiliang and Guilano Antonio. They were arrested for trespassing on railroad property and contend they were on the street when taken into custody.
A petition presented to Judge Mary this morning asks discharge of Twisla O Bottenhorn as executor from bond of 12000 in the estate of B Hugh Bottenhorn after settlement and filing of a final account.

President Harding plans to reach his native Marion Ohio by evening barring mishap. George R Holmer reports the drive from Uniontown through Washington Pa Wheeling and Columbus amid rain and improving weather. The trip comes as he follows news of major railroad strikes and related disruptions.

A Philadelphia and Reading Midnight Flyer derailed near Winslow Junction New Jersey at 12:20 a m killing eleven and injuring seventy two. State police Lieutenant Sickler reported all bodies recovered and 17 injured were women. One dead man was a porter with a Pullman assignment, and a card in an injured passenger’s pocket listed Saul North of Mays Landing.
An unidentified man died en route to Atlantic City after the Reading Railroad Midnight Flyer wreck near Winslow Junction.
