Soblen Slashes Self Aboard El Al Flight En Route To New York
Soblen, the 62 year old Lithuanian born spy imprisoned for wartime Russian espionage, attempted suicide aboard an El Al jet to New York. He wounded his abdomen with a serrated knife and slashed his wrist as U.S. marshals and an Israeli doctor watched. He was rushed to Kingdom Hospital with a damaged spleen and heavy blood loss and remains in serious condition. Destination plans to move him to New York were delayed pending doctors' decisions.
