Two late model autos collided on the north shoulder near Rock Springs Wyoming killing eight people. Five Fort Lewis soldiers in a convertible died and three Green River residents including a newly married couple were killed. Two others were hospitalized in critical condition.
Severe weekend storm tears up a huge apple tree on Mrs. C W Wilson's property with the 1957 apple crop aboard. Reports show June engagements and marriages rise over May, with licenses up from May 99 to June 104 and marriages from 59 to 94. Community notices include camp meeting at Free Methodist grounds July 4, active city playlots, popular Route 422 State Park, gas drainage on hills, and busy city parking lots. Dr George Toth tentatively identified the victim as Matt Pichulin a former miner and shoe repairman who reportedly threatened self harm before. Brandstetter his brother in law and family escaped unharmed as the blast blew out a side of the house.
Mary Imogene Spout, 28, a Memphis factory worker, confessed to smashing husband Floyd Spout's head with a claw hammer, sawing the body into three parts, and dumping them in a creek after the June 20 murder. Arrangements for arraignment to occur in Memphis city court.
An 11 foot alligator killed 9 year old Allen Rice while he played beside a creek in Eau Gallie Florida. Conservation agents captured and destroyed the reptile near the boy's mangled remains and found body parts inside the alligator. The boy was the son of Mr and Mrs Roger Beatty and had vanished Friday afternoon during a Ford of playing with friends.
A Philadelphia censorship committee branded about 49 magazines immoral and unfit for sale. The Philadelphia Citizens Against Obscenity screened 150 magazines at the request of local distributors and recommended banning the rejected titles from newsstands.
Lt. David A. Steeves, 23, of the Air Force, parachuted from a T 33 in central California. He survived 10,000 foot cold and alpine wilderness, hiked 40 miles, shot a deer and trout for food, and was rescued by two campers. He phoned his wife from Cedar Grove, Kings Canyon, after reaching civilization.

Hurricane Audrey pushed a cool air mass into the Great Lakes region and Ohio Valley causing a cold snap. Record low temperatures were reported in Bradford Phillipsburg and Brookville with Pittsburgh near the 1937 record while other readings included Altoona Blairsville and Erie. Fair skies were forecast with highs in the 70s.
French experts say there is only the remotest possibility that American soldier De Wayne McOsker could die by the guillotine if convicted of killing Ahmed Liamini in Paris on May 25. McOsker, held for trial on voluntary manslaughter charges, may face death in theory but practically such a sentence is almost never imposed under French law.

She left Alpine Hospital after examination with blisters and mouth sores from prickly pears.
Manufacturers Light and Heat Co starts a 620000 refund to about 247000 Pennsylvania gas customers for bills paid January 20, 1956 to May 20 this year. In New Castle 18500 and Ellwood City 5000 customers will benefit. past refunds include 400000 for sales dating to September 1, 1954.
