Lawyers For Chessman Will Continue Appeals
In San Francisco, Daryl Chessman’s lawyers said they will try again to take his case to the U S Supreme Court after Federal Judge Louis Goodman rejected the latest bid to halt his death row sentence. Miss Rosalie Asher said a next step would likely be the U S Circuit Court and possibly the Supreme Court, despite the high court having denied him 13 times. Judge Goodman suggested clemency from the California governor or an appeal to the State Supreme Court as Chessman’s best remaining path to stay alive. Chessman was convicted for prowling a Los Angeles lovers’ lane, robbing men, and forcing female victims to submit to sex acts. He denied the charges.
