McCurdy Forced to Land in Havana Water Flight

J A D McCurdy attempted an over water flight from Key West to Havana and nearly reached his goal before his engine ran hot and the lubricant supply exhausted. He landed the plane on the sea ten miles from Havana harbor and was picked up unhurt. Spectators watched with disappointment as the self imposed attempt ended near Camp Columbia. The delay and weather of the day drew a holiday mood in Key West.

Miss Arnold Seen in Michigan Town

Dorothy Arnold, daughter of a New York millionaire, registered at a Carsonville hotel under the name Jennie Williams from New York. She arrived from Detroit alone Tuesday and left on a train that evening, with locals believing the description matches her, though her destination remains unknown.

Fires Burn Freight and Stores in New Castle

City firefighters fought multiple blazes from 2:30 a.m. to midnight, including Levine’s Moravia street clothing store and Dr. Boak’s barn fire. City Considers Using General Revenue for Street Repaving

City Controller Lyman C Hughes proposes extending street repaving over two years to avoid a 47000 bond issue and its 36000 interest, allowing work on Washington Pittsburg Mercer streets and Long avenue to be funded from general revenue rather than long term debt. Burglars At Watson Home Nearly Caught In Act

Burglars entered the Watson residence on Park Avenue Saturday evening in the sitting room on the second floor. Lights on the first floor were switched on and the sideboard rifled. a pocketbook taken from a drawer was empty. A window was heard to slam as the burglar fled. the family did not report the incident to police.

Nazareno Vone arrested on a charge of criminal assault on a 13 year old girl, daughter of Pasquale Sergi near Ellwood City. He was held for court after a preliminary hearing before Alderman Ranney. Also charged with carrying concealed weapons and held for the March term of court.

Voters outpace remonstrances in liquor license actions

Remonstrances against liquor licenses outnumber votes in three wards. In the Third ward 700 signed vs about 12 more voters than cast ballots. Fourth ward remonstrants outnumber voters. Seventh ward 360 remonstrances to 320 votes. Across town many were ineligible due to unpaid county taxes or failure to register. Returns from townships show broad opposition with few exceptions. Further counts expected this week as remonstrances are compiled. One challenge notes Lee Lutz alleged disqualification at age 18.

Tidal Wave Follows Volcanic Eruption
