Claude H. Taylor a 40 year old former local resident was shot and killed during a post office holdup in Borger Texas on Tuesday evening Relatives report he confronted a man and woman thieves at the post office while seeking mail from family members in town. Further details remain scarce as investigators continue to piece together the incident.
The United States apologized to Italy for Maj. Gen. Smedley D. Butler's remarks about Benito Mussolini. Secretary of State Stimson handed the note to the Italian ambassador, after Navy Department confirmed Butler had admitted quoting his statements.
A Hope School bus overturned near Westfield church at 8 40 a m injuring 37 pupils. Two are seriously hurt Matilda Nemeth and Margaret Salata taken to Jameson Memorial hospital. others suffer cuts and bruises. A mob of about 100 townsmen stormed the Schafer county jail and hanged Charles Bannon 22 after seizing him from his cell. Sheriff Thompson and Deputy Hallan were overpowered but did not surrender the keys. Bannon reportedly confessed to killing six members of the Haven family and his father James F. Bannon was taken into custody but not harmed as the mob pursued the execution at a nearby bridge. Continued on Page Two.

Lawrence Smith aged 54, mail supervisor in the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue and former Perry County treasurer, collapsed at the Capitol steps and died of heart disease, as 75 clerks and several women fainted from the shock. Coroner Howard E. Milliken attributed the death to heart disease.

NINE MINERS ARE RESCUED ALIVE IN LINTON AS OFFICIAL DEATH TOLL REACHES 29. ALL MEN TRAPPED WERE accounted for. The Little Betty Mine near Linton, Indiana, suffered a fatal blast yesterday afternoon. Nine survivors, three with severe injuries, were rescued. Jollie Wellington of Sullivan was last injured survivor. Authorities identify dead and investigate blast cause.
Linton Indiana January 29 seven miners were brought to the surface alive at dawn from the gas filled explosion wrecked Little Betty coal mine located about six miles southwest of Linton. The rescue followed an earlier collapse that trapped the men underground.
A legal notice states Irene Schroeder and Glen Dague will appeal for commutation of sentence to the state pardon board on February 18. Governor Fisher granted a stay of execution to February 23 while the case is reviewed.
In a special session the power question over the Muscle Shoals project and the new Federal Power Commission dominated Senate action. Two Philadelphia motorists Michael Flynn aged 39 and William Anderson aged 35 were killed when their high powered roadster failed to negotiate a curve and plunged over a 60 foot embankment at the chequered bridge on the western edge of Coatesville. Anderson died instantly, Flynn died at Coatesville Hospital about an hour later. Coroner Herbert C. Ford ordered an investigation.
