Workmen are cleaning the rear fire walls of the First United Presbyterian Church ruin. The entire site will be cleared of debris in a few days with several projects planned for the area. Local drivers and garage workers report busy days with chains.
Pittsburgh January report says Judge James B. Drew will rule on 164 defendants who pleaded guilty on arraignment day after a grand jury probe of vice and graft. Thirty seven failed to appear and will enter pleas today with remaining cases to be disposed. Some defendants are dead or in hospitals or jailed on federal warrants.
NARRISBURG Jan 26 Fourteen hit and run cases caused one death and injured fourteen persons were reported during the past week by the Department of Highways Four arrests were made and investigators pursued leads to identify suspects.
A large crowd of about 900 attended Castle Senior Highs graduation exercises on Friday night as 105 members of the class received diplomas. Dr. Weir C. Emery Book a 65 year old Wampum resident was seriously injured when his coal truck was struck by the Pittsburgh Flyer at the Darlington Road grade crossing south of Wampum station. He had both legs broken and suffered internal injuries, carried along the engine for 200 to 300 feet, then taken to Beaver Valley General Hospital.
One miner was killed and between 10 and 34 miners are believed entombed after a powerful explosion at Kingston Poca coal company No. S mine in Kingston. From 36 to 40 miners escaped through exits opposite the blast. A blacksmith shop on the surface was wrecked and a mine building damaged while rescue squads were mobilized under Robert M. Lamble to reach the imprisoned workers.

The talk included entertainment by Helen Aller, Margaret Preston, Kriska the memory expert, Kriska, Grant Parks on banjo, and Loose Round with songs and dances. About 700 attendees and several out of town guests enjoyed dancing after the dinner.

President Coolidge urged elimination to fit the budget, while Senator Borah led the opposition arguing removal could aid future trade at disarmament talks. New leaders may step forward to salvage the measure as Hale still backs a three year start limit.
Washington January 26 The refueling ship Number 1 used in the Question Mark epochal flight arrived at Bolling Field at 10 30 today. No word from the Question Mark grounded at Greensboro North Carolina. Flight may resume later today. Aboard were Capt BG White Lieut Edward R Quesada and Staff-Sergeant Roy W Boor.

Harrison Bessell charged with breaking and entering a building and stealing chickens from EHwolek farm in Wayne township was sentenced to one to three years in the Western penitentiary by Judges Hildebrand and Chambers. Other defendants included Joseph Gierlack fined 200 dollars and jailed up to three months for driving drunk. John Steirbrinx jailed for thirty days with costs. Hli Markus paroled after paying a heavy fine. D. J. Dunn and William Kashinsky sentenced for liquor offenses with various fines and jail terms.
State engineers plan to widen the New Castle to Wilmington highway by adding 19 feet to each side and reducing the paved center to 30 feet. The state will fund the project, with land clearance from property owners, and may use concrete for the added sections beyond Walmo.
Governor Smith is expected to pay a courtesy call on President-elect Hoover next week. Reservations have been made for Smith and his party at the Miami Biltmore hotel. Smith is currently at Saratoga. No official engagement was set, but he may cross to the beach during his stay to pay respects to Hoover.
In Atlanta on January 35 Bahnling Geath in a local hospital Ernest Eich, 19, faced possible court action after a quarrel with his 17 year old wife Elizabeth Barrett Eich last Wednesday. She was shot in their bedroom. A coroner's jury found she died from pistol wounds inflicted by Ernest Eich, who is held for the next grand jury.
Probability exists the former Central Fire Department building will be rented. Parties are reportedly considering renting the structure and remodeling it.
