The annual shipping season favored earlier and more ore moved than expected with shipments from the United States. About 2,000,000 tons valued at $226,178,800 were shipped. Minerals showed no decline versus 1916 but value rose by 8 percent. The South Mint area shipped more than 107,000 tons, largely from Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia mines.

A wreath with caves and ribbon was taken from the front door of Mrs. Adeline Weaver at 19 West Lawrence Street. The theft occurred yesterday morning between eight and nine o'clock. Police were alerted but could not identify the culprit, believed to be a small boy amid recent thefts noted by the city police.
