Dr J Calvin Rose pastor of Second United Presbyterian church Milton resigns from his Milton County Line post and accepts a call to Miami Shores United Presbyterian in Florida. He begins duties February 20 and moves to Florida March 1 after 17 years as pastor on the east side. Rose came to New Castle in 1987 from White Oak Springs Pennsylvania after one year there. Fire investigators examined remnants of a grapefruit sized object that crashed into William C. Cunningham's window in Darby Township outside Philadelphia. Fire officials and astronomers said metal fragments found in the window sill show the object may be a meteorite and will be sent to the Smithsonian for analysis.
Herbert E. Kreger twenty five of Markleton died when he crawled under a dump truck to inspect why the bed would not raise and was crushed when the bed fell along Route 53 in Upper Turkeyfoot Township. He worked for the state Highways Department and is survived by his widow and one child. Marketon is about ten miles south of Somerset.
Maj Ambrose Nugent a career army officer from Merrill Wisconsin faces court martial on seven violations of the 96th Article of war. Proceedings begin at 10 am EST with Lt Col Donald L Manes Jr presiding at Fort Sill Oklahoma.

In Pittsburgh, a trolley collision in the East Liberty district left a motorman and two women hospitalized. Seventeen others suffered minor injuries when two Ardmore route cars collided head on after one car swerved into an open switch near midnight.
Edward Leonard Burns, 48, a gasoline station operator, died in a Mt. Holly area fire on U S Route 206. An overheated oil burner ignited the station, trapping him in living quarters above the shop. firemen recovered his body about an hour after the blaze began.
Charles Harmony Johnson Jr. president of the Lawrence Savings and Trust Company died Sunday afternoon at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital Philadelphia at age fifty after a three month illness. He was born March 15 1904 in New Castle and survived by his widow Marie Langford Johnson. Harrisburg report Governor Leader asks Legislature to streamline state government to cut costs and improve efficiency, citing Chesterman Committee reforms and a 19 member advisory group.
Sunday afternoon a fire damaged the Samuel J. Byler frame farmhouse at New Wilmington R D 1. Mrs Byler, home with six of her ten children, fled as the coal stove next to a fireplace sparked flames. She alerted Norman Igo who called the New Wilmington fire department. Igo and Mrs Byler rushed to the home and the blaze was fought for about 45 minutes. Damage limited to the front of the house.
The Pope remains frail with a bleeding stomach ulcer. Doctors report weekly blood and plasma transfusions to prevent sinking spells. Earlier tests showed an esophageal diverticulum linked to hiccups, with traces of blood noted in diagnosis.
Mrs. Dwight W. Morrow widow of the former U S ambassador to Mexico and mother in law of Brig Gen Charles A Lindbergh died Sunday night at her Englewood home aged 81. She had suffered a paralytic stroke two months earlier and had been in a coma most of the time since.

In Philadelphia a well known gambler Elmer Whitey Krieger age 45 was killed and Alfred Sassy Doc Manuszak 44 wounded in a mid city gun battle over a $1,000 dispute. A former city employee Morris Devlin 62 was injured in an earlier bottle attack during the confrontation. Police called the men underworld figures with long records and reported Krieger attacked Devlin over the money.
