Fire at the old D. W. Griffith studio in Hollywood caused about 250000 in damage. The blaze started in the laboratory of the Fine Arts studio complex that hosts eight independent motion picture companies. Cause under investigation.
International News Service reports seven Christians were hanged at Symmon for assisting the Greek army during occupation of western Anatolia. A dispatch from Constantinople on January 24 notes the Greek patriarch protests to the Allies.

Uniontown Pa Jan 40 grows a well known physician A E Grow brother of late US Senator Willian Grow had a dream Monday night in which he diagnosed a case of a woman who swallowed a needle years ago while eating an apple. Tuesday he operated at Uniontown hospital and removed the needle from her left side where the dream indicated. The patient named Jueld is recovering.
Mae E. Nolan wins California Fifth District seat in a front parlor campaign. She succeeds her late husband John I. Nolan as a labor ally in Congress. Nolan, a homemaker who never spoke publicly, led by about 3,000 votes over six male opponents. She favors Volstead Act modification and preserves her husband’s labor platform including child labor abolition, $3 minimum for government workers, soldier bonus, immigration limits, and a pension for postal staff. She plans to move to Washington soon to take her seat.
Bituminous miners and operators of the central competitive field ratified the wage scale agreement proposed by a seventeen member sub-committee. The new deal succeeds the Cleveland pact and takes effect April 1. Mr and Mrs Oliver Lundensen of Hangpe Street announce the birth of a son on January 20.

COBLENZ Jan 24 The Stars and Stripes were lowered from Ehrenbreistein fortress ending four years of occupation as American troops prepare to sail for home at Antwerp. The French tri color rose in turn while a Band played the Star Spangled Banner and the Marseillaise. General Henry T Allen accepted the banner amid farewells as German crowds gathered and troops boarded trains. Washington ordered withdrawal of American officers serving as observers with French forces as precautionary measure.
Fritz Thyssen Ruhr coal operator declares loyalty to Germany as he faces a French military tribunal on charges of disobedience. He and five other German mine directors were seized after refusing orders to run mines at full capacity for France. The trial opened amid objections over court jurisdiction and continued with the case to follow on pages.
In New Castle a large turnout of 125 women attended a Lawrence County League of Women Voters luncheon at Central Presbyterian. Mayor Fred L Rentz and other local figures were present as Mrs H Craig Steen introduced guest speaker Mrs E S H McCauley of Beaver who urged women to refrain from seeking office. Kiwanis Troop No 1 under master William Richards and assistant Scoutmaster Kenneth Cotton will present a first aid demonstration at the Ellwood City Scout Training School tomorrow evening. Demonstration covers advanced bandaging including triangular and roller bandages head hand foot finger eye bandages plus methods of applying splints to broken limbs and various rescue carries and stretcher construction.
