The Pa Newc observes a brutal temperature plunge from around 30 above to sixteen below zero overnight. A pump bundled in old coats evokes memories of harsher winters while farms still thaw equipment on real cold days. Fazio’s brothers Joseph and James, both 30 and 25, along with Robert Prettyman, 25, all of Swissvale, were detained at Greensburg barracks incommunicado awaiting possible hearings on conspiracy charges in Versailles Township.

In Geneva Indiana on January 33 200s children and seven teachers were trapped in a three room schoolhouse five miles north of town by a blizzard. With scarce food and fuel rescuers blocked by snow efforts to clear the road continued as teachers rationed meals and kept children entertained while highway workers attempted to reach the school.
