A large anti liquor remonstrance campaign begins with house to house canvassing by hundreds of workers led by men and women, including prominent attorneys and about 30 to 40 women visiting city wards. The effort, starting Tuesday or Wednesday, aims to secure signatures within two days per district, finishing by Friday and claiming the greatest temperance drive yet in the city and county.
Cincinnati reports a Democratic plan to seize one of the runaway West Virginia Republican senators, drag him to Charleston to form a quorum for Senate business. Adjutant General Elliott calls the idea dangerous. Republicans expect return to West Virginia by Wednesday. Taft, brother of the president, dined with the exiles last night.
New Castle police were alerted by Beaver Falls officials to search for Mike Buffalo wanted for murder in Beaver Falls. He is accused of shooting Vincenzo Gaudio last night.
At a Portsmouth meeting Billy Sunday predicted the city will beat New Castle in conversions. A wire from Portsmouth reports unbounded enthusiasm and moving meetings. Portsmouth’s total conversions rose to 1,490 on a Sunday, trailing New Castle’s 1,557 on the corresponding date, with expenses fully cleared at 8,039.74 dollars.
A charter for the Empire Brewing company was placed on record at the register and recorder's office. The firm is incorporated with 10000 dollars capital in 200 shares of 50 dollars each. Pittsburgh residents hold the stock. R G Beker five shares C O Palmer 190 shares and C T Keally Jr five shares. The Empire Brewing is the successor of the Spring Brewing of Chewton. The Chewton brewery has idle for a year. After license application last year the Spring Brewing firm faced financial trouble and was levied by the sheriff and later bankruptcy. Empire Brewing bought the plant and seeks a license to operate. People of Wampum Chewton and nearby areas plan to remonstrate against the license and against licensing the two hotels in Wampum.
Senator Gamble argues in the Senate that Lorimer was elected legally despite tainted votes. He claims even with ten tainted ballots Lorimer still secured a majority after modifications, denying direct bribery or vote corruption altering the result.
London reports from Hankow China say no more disorder after yesterday’s clash between English and German marines and native coolies. Marines and German forces aided by foreign volunteers suppressed an outbreak sparked by a wounded coolie who died en route to the police station.

Charles Hoagland of Butler avenue who shot himself about three weeks ago is improving. The bullet passed within about an inch of the heart and he is now able to sit up for short periods daily at Shenango Valley hospital and is expected to return home soon.

The Women’s Personal Workers league met at the YWCA Sunday with about 150 members. President Miss Anna Perry spoke on league work and future plans. Miss Elizabeth Harvard sang, and Miss Sara Dana Falls led the music. Meetings will continue Sundays at the YWCA until crowds require a church venue.

David Jameson of the Lawrence County Auto Club reports a Good Roads train will visit New Castle after February first. The program, directed by Pennsylvania State College with state and national highway departments and Pennsylvania Railroad, offers demonstrations of road building machinery and materials with models and lectures.
