Officials' stand on private court reporters softens
In a softening of their position the commissioners agreed to pay for temporary private court reporters hired by President Judge Glenn McCracken Jr. They will approve payments once contracts with two firms are produced, and a third firm, Aul Karlovits & Fulesday Inc. of Pittsburgh, is contracted. Some commissioners had opposed approving $3,326 for the two firms, citing cost and lack of prior consultation. The judge said authority comes from state rules and began hiring due to backlogs. Commissioner Tanner supported approving requisitions, while Eppinger warned this could set a precedent for other officials. The dispute continues.
