The government moves to demobilize about four million CWA workers starting Feb 15. Half a million will be dropped weekly for eight weeks, ending May 1, the largest artificial employment program ever attempted. Public protests flood in as citizens ask what comes next for the displaced workers.
Nearly 600 men work across Cunningham Park turning a corn field into a fifty foot graded highway.
