A mother Mrs Jacob Smith 25 and her three children aged 4 to 5 perished in a Sinnemahoning home blaze. The father, burned rescuing family, lies in a hospital as neighbors failed to reach the upper floor before the fire from an overheated stove engulfed the two story frame house. The isolated site had no fire protection.
Mexican Federal troops may pass through Texas to reach El Paso after the Texas acting governor reversed a prior decision. The plan limits passage to a very small portion of Texas, with about two thousand troops approved to cross into Mexico. The notice was relayed to Secretary Hughes in Washington.
United States stated it may deploy naval units to Mexican waters to protect interests and ensure safety amid rising tensions with Mexico. The démarche signals preparedness to act if needed to safeguard nationals and ships in the region.

Myrtle Atkinson a 31 year old nurse from Ironton Ohio was arrested in Philadelphia while caring for a patient and charged in the massillon policeman Thomas Gwynn murder case. She protested innocence claiming a frame-up and said investigators would coerce her to testify against friends. Authorities awaited word from Ohio.
Winchester, Virginia. After Winchester Memorial Hospital burned last night causing about 125000 dollars in losses, more than twenty private homes were pressed into service to treat the hospital's 21 bedridden patients. Most residents are women including new mothers and recently operated patients. no casualties were reported.

Eight month old Cletus Moore of St. Louis fought death after a 1000 mile journey and arrived at University hospital still gasping for breath. Four volunteer surgeons offer to operate without pay to save his waning life as his nurse Mrs. Lela Parrish cared for him. The time of operation remains undecided as the case unfolds.
County Commissioners led by Weingart, Davis and McCullough forecast a higher millage from six to possibly seven mills to meet 1924 costs. Major items include $150,000 for a Mahoning town bridge and about $45,000 county share for Mt Jackson and Bessemer road work. The total assessed valuation is placed near $61.5 million.
Three Rieck-McJunkin Dairy employees escaped serious harm when the Pennsylvania Railroad morning train struck their truck near the McCready and Fombelle Coal offices. Cecil Makin suffered a scalp wound and bruises and was taken to the New Castle hospital. W A Allen and James Coleman escaped. The truck was severely damaged and the incident occurred just east of Fast Washington street near the coal scales.
John P. Keenan and Hdna Rothrock of Clearfield Pa listed among marriage license issuances. Francis J. Coates of Edenburg and Gladys Weaver of Edenburg also noted.
A man named George Leone was found in a stupor in Gaston park near Lyndal street about 4 30 PM Friday by Officers Horner and Kennedy. He had head injuries and was taken to Shenango Valley hospital where his condition remains semi conscious and unchanged.
A lone bandit robbed BF N Daniels, cashier for Irving Pitt Manufacturing in Kansas City Missouri, of 18400 dollars at the plant entrance. The money was to pay 450 employees. The incident occurred January 19 and the money was taken from the cash drawer.
Senator James Couzens of Michigan demands Secretary of the Treasury Andrew Mellon disclose his personal wealth and tax payments and proposes a public debate on the Mellon tax plan. Couzens says he has publicized his own wealth and taxes and invites Mellon to a fifty fifty staging in a hired hall.
Rudolph Richarich, 17, of Bessemer, was seriously injured Friday afternoon when a revolver discharged while two brothers examined it. The bullet pierced his right arm and entered the right abdomen region before lodging in the back. He was taken to Shenango Valley hospital where the bullet was removed and his condition remains serious.

Fries, advertising man on the Erie Times, drops dead on a Pennsylvania train from Corry to Erie. William H. Washington finds a Spanish coin dated 1790 while gardening in West Braddock. John Marshall, new mayor of Warren Ohio, enrolls in the Hawk School at Youngstown Institute of Technology for the full course. Rev EB Lewellen resigns after 25 years as pastor of Central Presbyterian Tarentim Pa due to ill health. Mrs Ann Clark 104 year old friend of President Van Buren dies at Canastota NY and voted for Harding. William Myers 18 of New Kensington shot in the leg when a revolver discharged in a repair shop. Edgewood school in Manor township Ameshomg county closes briefly due to wholesale coal theft.
