Lodge 2178 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers voted 379 to 73 to accept Mesta Machine Company’s final contract after a 16 week strike. A secret ballot at Benjamin Franklin Junior High School ended a 2.5 hour meeting with one blank vote. Some boilermen will return tonight as preparations begin for an orderly plant start up. Major contract items include wage grade raises for nuclear welders planners burners and linagraph staff.

France proposes four-nation Middle East conference
France proposed a four nation conference on the Middle East under U.N. auspices and said it would send a delegation to Lebanon to study its defense problems. The plan envisions U.N. ambassadors from the United States Russia Britain and France coordinating with U.N. Secretary General Thant. Paris stressed the Lebanon mission officers would not act as military advisers despite sensitivities in Europe.

U S Troops Storm Jungle Stronghold Near Saigon
U S infantry supported by tanks stormed a Communist stronghold in the Coi Loi forest about 35 miles northwest of Saigon. The Red force suffered 43 dead. U S forces had 1 killed and 12 wounded. Pets survive 30 day vigil over mistress
Colorado Springs police end a 30 day vigil by a German Shepherd and Siamese Cat that guarded the dead mistress. The pets survived by chewing book bindings for food after entering a locked house where the body lay nearly a month. The animals were rescued and expected to recover.
