Dollar Savings Dividend Intent Is Announced
The Dollar Savings Association of Lawrence County will pay a 3 percent annual dividend for the semi annual period to run January 1 to June 30 1957. Blair D. Alverson announced the plan after the annual meeting and reorganization. Joseph R. McFate was re elected as director and officers named include Robert A. Eckles president Ivor V. Davis vice president Orville Potter secretary Richard E. Rentz treasurer Wayne C. Porter assistant secretary assistant treasurer. The board includes Caldwell McFate Jesse N. Kerr and Thomas C. Elliott. Eckles reported 1956 assets up 1 055 387.64 mortgages up 839 849.20 and savings up 815 659.35. Reserve accounts now represent 94 percent of total assets.

Welty face murder charges for the beating death of Cleveland W. Baird in East Huntingdon Two on Oct. 19 after allegedly taking him from a tavern and robbing him.

Gas blast kills three at Panhandle Eastern plant
In Liberal Kansas an explosion damaged the Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Co engine room killing Melvin Swofford 35 Ivan Hill 40 and Jim Haynes 30. At least eight workers hospitalized with two in critical condition and several others with minor injuries. The blast followed a gasoline engine cylinder rupture allowing gas to enter the room.
