A Cleveland sailor, James J. Wehrmeyer, 21, was killed when his car was struck by a Pennsylvania Railroad freight train near Mt. Holly in Jobstown. The body of Roy Shoemaker a 57 year old railroad engineer was found along Norfolk Western tracks about six miles from his home. Police say he was likely struck by a train shortly after midnight and dragged 100 feet but will investigate why he was off his usual route and whether foul play occurred.

Five dangerous Georgia escapees were arrested by state police in Kalamazoo after a local officer spotted them in a restaurant. Identified as Charles Maney Arther Campbell Oscar Payne S D Wilson and Ernest Newton they were jailed in Kalamazoo County awaiting transfer. They had been serving sentences for crimes from car theft to breaking and entering and planned to head to Chicago after a day in Detroit.
Gov. John S. Fine appointed George W. Miles as superintendent of the State Training School at Morganza with a 12000 dollar annual salary. Miles had been acting superintendent since August after Chester L. Sterling's resignation. The board recommended him in November and his appointment does not require Senate confirmation. Sterling left over policy disputes at the institution.
Nationalist warplanes bombed Communist positions on Tieno Island near the Tachens and supply Junk fleets were sent to Red-held islands. Communique says raids from pre dawn Fifth Day ended with all planes returning. Tachens patrol boats repelled a torpedo attack as PT boats fired two torpedoes that missed. Fourteen SA-11 bombers were seen but no bombs dropped.

Franklin and Oil City Hospitals each receive about $200000 under the will of Harry Heasley and Nell Porterfield Heasley. Franklin Hospital notes the gift comes at a timely moment as the board planned a $150000 drive for a children's ward.
Panama's president for 12 days Jose Ramon Guizado was impeached and arrested on complicity in the assassination of President Jose Antonio Remon. The triggerman, Uben Iro, a 44 year old attorney, confessed and implicated Guizado and Rodolfo Saint Malo.
