A terrible wreck occurred when an engineer of B and O unknowingly ran onto the Pittsburg and Lake Erie main line at Moravia Street. The impact near Gardner Avenue killed four instantly and caused Engineer Clark to die later in hospital.
Five dead five injured in a head on collision between Baltimore and Ohio train No. 156 and Pittsburg and Lake Erie No. 501 near Gardner Avenue. Engineers Gannon and Smith killed, fireman Cunningham crushed. Williams, Clark, Craft, and Ellis among the injured who were loaded to hospitals. Coroner to hold inquest. officials investigating scene.
In Delmar on January 15 detectives and local residents faced a lynching threat after George Linton, 20, was jailed on criminal assault charges against Mrs. J. T. Weaver. A tense ice chase and bitter mood surrounded the case as townsfolk debated justice while Linton was guarded and Weaver's condition improved.
Postmaster General Hitchcock urged government ownership of telegraph lines prompting White House concern and a formal conference with President Taft. Frank Palizo of Hillsville is jailed on charges of selling liquor on Sunday to minors and without a license. Seven companions were arrested for disorderly conduct and pleaded guilty with $1 fines. Palizo’s wife faces liquor selling info but remains at large due to a sick baby. A hearing is planned before Alderman Ranney. Special Officer Edwards led the raid finding multiple barrels and jugs of alcohol.

A Pasadena hotel burned to the ground with $200000 in damage. No lives were lost as guests and servants were escorted to safety by elevator boys. Fashionable winter visitors fled in night clothes while other hotels opened to shelter the fugitives. Firefighters kept the blaze contained to the hotel.
The city’s fire departments gathered at Central Presbyterian Church for the annual memorial service. Volunteers led the attendance as paid men stayed on duty. Rev. A. B. McCormick preached a strong sermon to the assembled firefighters.
In Kittanning Pennsylvania on January 15 Joseph Sipko about 30 of Ford City deliberately stepped in front of a Pennsylvania Railroad train due at 9 25. The engine driver moved the body aside and Sipko died at Campbell’s morgue after being taken to Kittanning hospital.
New York reporters note Abe Attell world featherweight champion will face Knockout Brown in a bout Thursday night. Attell is praised for agility while Brown brings a powerful punch with a heavy reach advantage, as Attell concedes 12 pounds.
Lawrences 13 000 striking mill hands clash with police as state militia in fixed bayonets disperse rioting workers. Gov Foss orders five more companies to the scene billeting on special trains. Troops charged the mob after rioters beat police and hurled objects. No serious injuries reported as crowds jeer the militia.
The Butz heirs filed exceptions to the viewers report on Dewey avenue claiming land taken for greenhouses caused damages not proportional to benefits. They seek a jury hearing. No applicants have filed papers for liquor licenses as of Saturday. Applicants usually wait until the last day or day before filing. Remonstrances will be prepared after filings, with the last day for remonstrances set for February 7.
A suspect was arrested after a brief standoff with TV police following a reported disturbance. Officers cordoned the area and transported the individual to the county jail for questioning.
New Castle police arrested thirty six people tied to three disorderly houses Saturday night and Sunday morning. Proprieties Lizy Johnson Mabel Davis and inmates Mary Smith Martha Wilson Bell Johnson Alberta Shape Pearl Richards faced charges with fines issued by Mayor Tyler. Several visitors were discharged or posted forfeits.
In accordance with Mayor Tyler's plan the street department cleared snow from the Neshannock creek between the mill dam and East Washington street bridge. A large crowd skated Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening despite the cold, with two to three hundred on Sunday. The ice was covered again by a new snowstorm.
United Mine Workers of America meet in Indianapolis for their annual convention to press wage increases from coal operators in the east, south, and middle west. Delegates foresee wage talks starting by Jan. 25 with about 200 operators invited from multiple states. officials and delegates travel by special trains, and not all operators have agreed to attend. John P. V. is expected to remain president.
