Potatoes donated to aid jobless in Lawrence County
A Columbiana farm donated over 100000 pounds of potatoes to the Lawrence County Organized Labor Association for distribution to the unemployed and needy. The first 52000 pounds were unloaded at the National Guard Armory and half sent to Ellwood City and Beaver Falls. A 50000 pound load was to arrive from McMaster Farms. Distribution begins at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the armory with other sites in Ellwood City and Bessemer. The effort is coordinated by Capt. Terry Naylor with Camp With Christ supervising. The group plans athletic events to raise donations and a basketball game at New Castle High School Field House on April 2. They also aim to help homeowners at risk of sheriff sale. Officers include George Fregone, William Greer, John Graziani, and Michael Cercell. The next meeting is Thursday at 7 p.m. at Riverside Apartments.
