Not All Jobless Are Idle Says Labor Study
Washington UPI reports a Labor Department study of 9.6 million unemployed in 1961 found most are not loafers. They tended to be older, less educated, in lower paying jobs, with about 275 dollars in yearly unemployment compensation and 20 to 64 year olds comprising nearly seven tenths. Fifty five percent headed families and most sought work through multiple avenues. The survey covered unemployed people in April 1962.
