New Castle council meeting devolved into a shouting farce over auto fire trucks. A Robinson Auto Fire Truck rep urged a cheaper model, while a committee recommended two White trucks. Hileman’s request to demonstrate his machine sparked strong language as debate was postponed for two weeks.
About 2 AM police visited Mrs. Sadie Barnes home and arrested eight people on disorderly conduct charges. Three women Hattie Hood Bell McGee Bertha Brown and five men including Harry Johns J G Kerr and Charles Brown faced fines of 1 dollar and 4 dollars in costs. Two women were released under suspended sentence and two others held for further investigation.
Chief of Police Mitchell stated no burglaries were reported last night and no arrests have been made yet for the North Hill burglaries or those reported on Saturday and Sunday nights.
James McDevitt of 112 Maitland Street survived severe burns after grafts from 300 skin pieces taken by his sons brother nephew and brother in law. John McDevitt supplied 32 pieces. other family members provided grafts as the patient shows improvement.
A charter is awarded to the New Castle Day Nursery association to care for children whose mothers work. It will be run by 25 directors, with twelve elected for two-year terms. Initial year directors include S Ella Ouster, Margar et McGown, Ida K McGown, Ellen P McCready, Anna M McKee, Mary L Moody, Emma W Frew, Nina H Eckles, Virginia A Hanna, Sarah L Hartsuff, Effie P Kirk, Wanetta Linville, Lorena E Seavey, Anna M Smith, Pamphla H Phillips, Ina H Porter, Eleanor B Reis, Mary Allen, Anna Bleakley, Ella Caine, Eleanor McCraig, Julia S Brown, Rebecca KE Norris, and Margaret B Dunn. The corporation has no capital stock.
District Attorney Thomas W. Dickey prepared indictments against Charles Chip Alonzo Snyder and Anthony Carrigan who pleaded guilty to robbery before May or Tyler. The youths frequented a Westside shack where cards are played and ice tossed as older boys plan robberies with younger accomplices. Parents on the Westside are urged to investigate their sons attendance at the shack and intervene.
A group from Youngstown church led by Rev. D. C. Fulton visited Highland U. P. church Monday night and joined evangelistic services. Several visitors spoke, then all went to Rev. and Mrs. Fulton’s home for a social hour and lunch before returning by the midnight car.
Evangelist Pete Porter of New Castle extended the invitation at the close of the Elizabeth campaign session but did not urge a decision. He plans to resume tomorrow afternoon and will issue a special invitation at the end of each meeting, as enthusiasm grows in the borough.
A ten day revival is under way at Wayne Street church in Erie Pennsylvania led by Rev R L Foulke son of Mrs C W Foulke of the city. Many conversions reported with 26 converted and 22 expected for prayers last Sunday night as the congregations fill the auditorium and interest grows.
Death notices list Milton Nesbit 84 and Dorothy Hazen 3 among callers. Mrs. Jacob Endres and Mrs. Sarah E. Thompson 80 reside in Zelienople and 17 W. Cherry street respectively. Elizabeth J. Badger 56 of Eliwood is also named.
An early morning blaze damaged the First Baptist Church at East and North streets, with the auditorium area most affected. Firemen fought the basement fire from below, using four water streams, and crews from nearby wards aided. Officials estimate losses likely insured. damage amount undisclosed.
At a stockholders meeting in Wampum the Crescent Portland Cement Company re elected directors including David M. Kirk R H Hughes Jacob Friday D P Reighard A C Smith George W Hackett and J W Conroy of Pittsburg J Sharp Wilson and C M Hughes of Beaver. Directors then reelected officers President David M Kirk Pittsburg Vice President R H Hughes Pittsburg Secretary W B Murray Wampum Treasurer C M Hughes. No other business was reported though capital stock expansion was to be voted on. Plant operating with strong prospects for the year.
The Federation of Women’s clubs will hold a luncheon at 1 o’clock Wednesday at the Tea Cup Inn. A business meeting will follow at the home of Mrs. J. J. Madigan on North Beaver Street, replacing the First Baptist church venue.

Frank Marino of Coalburg learns the man killed at New Castle Junction last week was Guisseppi Marino not his brother Joe Marino. An inquest identified the deceased as Joe Marino due to a naming mix up with a local Joe Marino from Sheep Hill.
Sheriff records show 1094 commitments to the county jail in 1912 with many discharges after magistrate hearings totaling 598. Of commitments, 91 percent were white males and 81 white females, plus 81 colored males and 25 colored females. At year end 1912, 9 white males and 1 colored male remained jailed. The year also notes 26 juveniles, 90 city prisoners, and 999 county prisoners, with 21 in jail on January 1.
The Associated Charities report total receipts of 815.79 with 615.72 disbursed and a remaining balance insufficient for February and March obligations. It calls for further contributions to support winter relief, requesting funds sent to secretary Miss Cora Ritchie or treasurer F. A. Hover at Lawrence Savings & Trust building.
Trial before Judge James M. Galbreath involves Johnston a Wilmington township apple grower accused of breaching a December 1910 contract with Thomas McLaughlin of Pittsburgh for 4000 bushels at 85 cents per bushel. McLaughlin contends failure to ship as agreed caused losses. Johnston claims different order specs and that the hand picked Baldwin variety was demanded.
At a Civic league meeting in New Castle the eight member committee was formed to urge merchants to close on Sunday. Members include A E Yoho W M Alexander W T Burns Rev D C Whitmarsh Wylie M McClelland David G Ramsey M S Cross and W J Davies. Officers named Rev S J Crowe president W J Spurrier Ed O'Brien George Ball secretary Clyde Gibson A O McFadden treasurer J Q L Roberts. Finance committee members are John A McKee J C Raney and George W Moody.
Surgeons at New Castle hospital yesterday removed the eye of a little Cassandra girl injured weeks ago at Home Street School when a hat pin was accidentally driven into her eye.
The case of Citizens National Bank v EBBH continues as Hileman faces trial before Judge Porter. David Jameson and J Norman Martin plus other bank associates testified on the $12 000 allegedly owed to the bank.

City firemen may receive a five dollar per month salary raise. Councilman Riddle introduced the ordinance to raise all drivers and paid department members. The measure was referred to committee and will return to councils for action. About 27 firefighters would be affected if passed.
The pardon application for Larr Guinaugh will be presented to the Harrisburg pardon board by Attorney H. K. Gregory. Guinaugh was convicted of manslaughter in the death of Hugh Myron McCloud at the Lafayette hotel after a barroom dispute.
William W. Winfield, once a Standard Oil messenger, testified before Senator Clapp's committee about stealing letters and letters files from John D. Archbold's office. He described seeing telegrams in 1904 and a scheme with Charles Stumph and others to obtain and dispose of copies.

No 4 furnace at the Carnegie steel mill was damaged by an explosion and will likely be out of service for four to five weeks during repairs. No injuries were reported.
One new diphtheria case is reported today. Ransford Riddle of 1125 Dewey Avenue is ill with the disease.

Volant faces a heated race for postmaster with four contenders John M. Graham W M G Drake W M Stevenson and G Blake challenging Frank Morehead who has held the office for fifteen years and will serve another year. Graham a local merchant and former Manor Schools principal leads the slate. Drake a Wilmington township farmer is known nationally for farmer institute lectures. Stevenson from Washington township has long served as county committeeman. Blake a Neshannonk Falls teacher would also fit the role.
The Washington Mutual Fire Insurance company held its annual meeting yesterday afternoon at its East Washington and Court streets headquarters. Directors elected include W. Y. Gibson and others. three auditors were chosen as Joseph Dicks John Tula and CGly Moorehead. James Potter was re elected treasurer. The annual statement was approved showing receipts of 13 1617 07 and expenditures of 6514 62 with 5267 87 paid for losses. Balance on hand 4343 and 1912 assessment 8546 55.
Councils passed a resolution granting the B. R. P. Rail road company permission to lay two tracks across Furnace way near Moravia street to connect the Vulcan foundry on Moravia with the railroad. Negotiations are under way for locating a new industry in the city using the Vulcan foundry building.
