A manhunt is under way after a report that the believed kidnapper has been located, prompting police to intensify search efforts and issue alerts. Authorities caution the public while continuing to gather evidence and track possible sightings.
Everett police seized a black coach with stolen plates believed used by the kidnapper who slain 10 year old Charles Mattson. The recovered vehicle was tied to the Dec 27 abduction and the boy’s body found near Everett as authorities widened the manhunt led by Dr William W Mattson and Tacoma investigators. The case sparked fears of lynching as the funeral for the child was planned for today.
Michigan Governor Murphy orders infantry artillery and cavalry to Flint to prevent more violence at auto plants after a riot at Fisher Body Plant No. 2. He calls for a conference between General Motors officials and United Auto Workers leaders to seek peace and bars warrants against strikers for now.
Two parolee suspects tied to bank robberies in Idaho were arrested. One is a Sharon resident and both had prior sentences at Western Penitentiary in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Jameson Memorial hospital reports patient numbers rising above 100 after dipping to about 65 during Christmas.

New York police said they captured Major Green a 33 year old porter in the Jackson Heights building where Mary Harriet Case 25 was found slain. Three fingerprints on the bathroom door linked Green, with his brother Henry Green and William Henry Johnson named as accessories after the fact. Johnson allegedly sent a blood stained shirt to a laundry and Henry Green tried to dispose of clothes from the Case apartment.
Harrisburg January 13. State police announce three weeks until patrolmen wear new red and blue uniforms. Superintendent Captain Charles Quarles says the outfits depart from past gray attire and aim to inspire neater appearance and greater discipline.
Mrs Viola Hope Reed of North Beaver township joins the death records. Mrs Blair Rankin age 57 of Lowellville Ohio, Mrs Catherine Scanlon aged 86 of 108 West Clayton Street, Greensburg, Mrs Samuel K Brinkley of Greensburg, Joseph Orren McCullough 79 Mercer County, James Mosby 62 of 1109 Scioto Street, Bert E Hagerty 75 of Greer Building.
Ten year old Charles Mattson was stabbed in the back and bludgeoned to death with a pipe or hammer. An autopsy by Dr. S. M. Creswell and Dr. Charles McCall for the boy’s father revealed the fatal injury and nonlethal dagger wound. FBI agent E J Connelly observed evidence including blue clay on hair and nails. G men race Puget Sound for the crime scene near Everett to locate the captor’s ground.
In Cleveland on January 13, families of idle Fisher Body workers rushed relief offices with applications. The county relief office added six interviewers and two field workers after a surge from the Fisher plant district. The two May days produced 160 relief requests, coal being the most needed item.
Melvin Stinedurf of 320 Quest Street was robbed at gunpoint near Atlantic Avenue and Etna Street at about 2 am. A heavyset tall man, masked at first but later unmasked, demanded his pocketbook and stole his watch and chain before returning them as he fled. Stinedurf fought back, receiving blows and a kick before the assailant disappeared into darkness.

Ashman 29 a semi pro baseball player died in Hamet hospital after plunging 16 feet from a second floor window at his Erie home He flipped a cigarette and fell through the glass suffering a fractured skull His funeral will be held Friday He once tried out with the Cleveland Indians three years ago
Joseph Lief of Long avenue explained that a woman's clothing found Tuesday in an alley behind Hamilton street arose from an incident at New Castle hospital. He said a wife had been taken to the hospital and the clothing was being returned home when it was lost.
Directors and officers for Citizens National bank First National Bank of Lawrence County and Union Trust company of New Castle were elected at January meetings. Citizens National elected nine directors and named officers led by John H Lamb as president and George R Ralph as executive vice president. First National listed eight directors with George A Carpenter and others. Bessemer State bank election to occur late today. Lawrence Savings & Trust and Peoples bank set for January 19 elections.
Eight men died when a light freight locomotive backed from Cima Cal to Brant Calif and struck a motorized hand car carrying a Union Pacific foreman Vernal Anderson 36 of Brant and a section crew. Wreckage spread over 500 feet. victims believed dead at once.
Berlin January 13 A rumor spread by drawing room gossip is growing that the aging ex Kaiser Wilhelm II is making secret trips to Germany. The tale is being circulated as a legend in German social circles amid the wartime reflections.
Two of the ten aboard the Western Air Express airliner route Salt Lake City to Los Angeles were Mr and Mrs Martin Johnson famous explorers. Both were injured with Mr Johnson dying today from the injuries sustained in the crash.
International News Service reports a western air express crash in California area. Martin Johnson, famed hunter and explorer, died from injuries. Eleven others, including Johnson’s wife, were injured and hospitalized after the crash on a rain slick mountain road. One victim died instantly in the wreckage.
Infantry operations were frozen and war planes grounded by thick fog in Madrid. American officials prepared to evacuate Americans, with a temporary embassy warning of closure. About 33 Americans remained in the embattled city, many penniless, while others stayed for business and family ties.
The Rev. W. Archie Gibson, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church of Kinzua Pennsylvania, was chosen to lead the City Rescue Mission at 17 South Mercer Street. He will assume March 1, succeeding Rev. Benjamin J. Watkins who plans to retire from mission work.
Thomas Thorton Hart 21, a University of Pennsylvania medical student from Warrenton Virginia, died after he wounded himself in his rooming house. Found unconscious beside a bloodstained knife, surgeons at University Hospital attempted to save him with two stitches to his heart, but he died three hours later amid reports of eye ailment and headaches. Hart was a Virginia Polytechnic Institute graduate.
Police chief J. K. Harris arrested Harold Brest 27 of Sharon and Harry Eat 28 of Becks Run road Pittsburgh in Boise Idaho for investigation in a string of robberies. The pair, recently paroled from Western State Penitentiary, were tied to holdups in Volant Pennsylvania and other Michigan cities and a July kidnapping in Sharon.
Stockholders of the First National Bank of Volant held their annual meeting in the bank building Tuesday evening at 8 o clock. Directors elected for the ensuing year were Charles Blumenshine J M Anderson W G Stevenson H J Collins and W R Campbell. W R Stevenson was named president W R Campbell vice president Phil Cox cashier and Mrs Mable Brown assistant cashier. The report showed the bank in a very prosperous condition.
