A new cold wave descended on the Western Pennsylvania district with falling snow. Officials from the Weather Bureau forecast several days of frigid weather with city temperatures around 15 degrees or lower and suburban readings from 10 to near zero. The 8 am reading showed 26 degrees as the cold began after midnight. Forecaster William Brotzman said it will be cold for several days to come.

Sheriff Harve England said he would testify before a grand jury to identify the leaders of a mob that chained Raymond Gunn to a schoolhouse roof and burned him to death after the arrest for the Colter murder. The mob seized Gunn as he was being moved from the county jail to the courthouse and forced a confession. The episode followed the felonious attack and slaying of Velma Colter, a 20 year old teacher.
A suspect in the Ingie slaying is jailed amid ongoing investigation. Police secured detention as prosecutors prepare formal charges and request further evidence.
Chicago Tribune reporter Leo V Brothers of St. Louis was indicted by a January grand jury for the murder of Alfred Jake Lingle racketeering. After four witnesses testified the jury returned the murder indictment at 5 15 p m yesterday. An arrest warrant had already been issued and Brothers was moved from a hotel prison after capture December 21 by state operatives.
Mrs. Henry Berlin aged 50 wife of the Carnegie Steel Company assistant superintendent of upper mills died when she leaped or fell from the third story window of their home onto a concrete drive in Youngstown Ohio on January 13.
Greensburg Pa January 13 Establishment of a motive for the mystery slaying of Mrs Frank Jones and James A Zellefrow of Vandergrift will be the key clue in solving the new murders county detectives will face. Chief John Itzel said motive must be found to fix blame and he has worked since being summoned to the lonely farmhouse near Vandergrift where the murders were found last Sunday. State police have been called to aid in the investigation.
