Williams Nominated for Treasury Comptroller Amid Senate Fight
John Skelton Williams, assistant secretary of the treasury, nominated by President Wilson as comptroller of the treasury, faces a Southern-led Senate opposition. Born in Powhatan Virginia in 1865, he built ties with railroads and banks, organized Seaboard Air Line and Bank of Richmond, and later held multiple directorships. He studied at the University of Virginia and married Lila Lefebvre Isaacs in 1895.
