In Lampa Florida two men Bert M. Banker and Emil H. Olson owners of the Green Lantern road house were beaten by thirty masked assailants who drove up and dragged them from the building. The house was set on fire causing estimated losses of 35000 dollars.
Friday January 4 the Perry S Gaston Post 343 American Legion installed officers at the Legion Home with Wm G Flemming as commander and Edward F Hoye and Ivor M Richards as senior and junior vice commanders. Deputy State Commander Frank Weber spoke on veterans work and the adjusted compensation bill while Edward M Conner urged a district Legionaire for veterans activities. Other officers named include Adjutant George J Keach Post Finance Officer Edward E Marshall Historian John S Bichibben Chaplain Walter W Braham Cerreant at arms DeGraff Robinson and Trustee Dr R C Lutz.
Horace A. Greer Mabel Normand’s chauffeur will face prosecution for shooting Courtland S. Dines at a New Year’s party in Los Angeles. Assistant Captain Herman Cline said Greer cannot evade charges of assault with a deadly weapon to commit murder, with Dines or the witnesses required in court. The case pauses until Dines and Miss Normand recover and attend proceedings.

William Gayden a colored man is held for the murder of Mrs. Mary Farax a Syrian peddler on November 13 1923 after a preliminary hearing before Alderman O H P Green. The charge of accessory before the fact was dropped and testimony alleges Gayden assaulted and choked the victim with co defendant Henry Bragg/Robert Henry testifying about Gaydens statements and actions during the crime.
Congressman Thomas W. Phillips Jr of Pennsylvania says he favors drastic tax reduction but has not studied Mellon's plan in detail yet. He opposes a split between earned and unearned income, arguing it would encourage wealth enemies and hamper investments. He notes about fifty letters daily from Pennsylvania urging support for Mellon's program.
In Pittsburgh a taxi driver, Charles Bo Gallie, was robbed by two men and a "bandit queen" about 25 who directed the crime from the cab. Earlier that day masked gunmen terrorized Dr. J. W.
