Lawrence County will grant a three percent wage increase to elected officials in 2024 under a 2016 ordinance. The ordinance sets annual raises for county commissioners, the controller, coroner, prothonotary and clerk of courts, register of wills and recorder of deeds, sheriff, and treasurer based on the CPI changes for the latest 12 months.
Lawrence County government nonunion and management personnel will receive a 2.25 percent raise this year. The adjustment aligns with a CPI U based increase method, with caps and potential adjustments if CPI U varies. Elected officials had 6.4 percent increases last year, and this year the CPI stands at three percent, setting their salaries for 2024.
The South New Castle Borough council held its last meeting at the municipal building before the Shenango Township merger. Starting February, meetings will be held at the fire hall while the borough advertises a inter municipal agreement for the 2026 merger and asset sales. Secretary treasurer Albert Burick III, who resigned as township supervisor, will become the township manager.

The administration also prepares for a presidential election shaped by past tensions with allies and rivals.
State Sen. Doug Mastriano dismissed Democrat Art Haywood's plan to file an ethics complaint in the Senate over Mastriano's role in the 2020 election, calling it a partisan stunt and urging focus on crime and overdose issues. Haywood cited Mastriano's public record and involvement in attempts to overturn the 2020 results, with CREW advocates joining his press conference in the Capitol.
