A group of American Indians camped at Fort Sheridan Illinois yesterday to protest poor housing for Chicagoans. They demand 200 empty fort housing units be used to shelter needy residents, according to UPI.
Heavy snow expected in Erie County tonight with travel warnings for north and south regions. Rain south changing to snow in the north with 4 to 6 inches accumulation tonight and highs in the 30s to 40s today. North lows in the teens to 20s, Wednesday brings wind and cold with flurries or squalls and 30s.

Viet Cong ambushed an American patrol 40 miles northeast of Saigon, killing one GI and downing four helicopters sent on a rescue mission. Four choppers were shot down as they arrived to assist, with two severely damaged and flown out. U S military said medevac helicopters carried M60 guns for defense, a policy in place for a decade.
Senator George S. McGovern filed in the nations first presidential primary in Concord New Hampshire and refused to concede to Edmund Muskie saying New Hampshire voters do not give anything away automatically. McGovern doubled the required signatures and urged rivals to campaign in the state while Muskie planned a televised candidacy announcement. Nixon hinted at possibly seeking another term as his name appeared on the Republican ballot.

Government sources say the sky marshal program may be trimmed by as much as 11 million from a 37 million budget for the coming year. About 1,500 marshals have been trained since 1970, but reforms would reassign many to airport security or Customs rather than deplaning planes.
Harold Robert Howe, a three year old from Slippery Rock Road 2, is listed in satisfactory condition at Albany Medical Center after heart surgery on December 20. Doctors say he is improving though his hospital stay may continue. The family has incurred over $1,000 in bills with $1,500 more unpaid. The United Fund of the Albany Area has agreed to assist with the last operation and other aid.
In Harrisburg the 1972 General Assembly opens with House Republicans challenging a sine die adjournment as illegal and moving to elect new officers. Rep. Daniel Beren plans a vote to oust Speaker Herbert Fineman, offering reforms in exchange for reelection. Democrats oppose reorganizing, while the Senate plans to proceed with legislation before the Farm Show recess.
