First hijack of 1971 targets National Airlines flight
The year’s first hijacking occurred three days into 1971 on a National Airlines DC8 from Los Angeles to Tampa. An armed hijacker forced the cockpit takeover and diverted the plane to Havana, with 97 aboard. Capt. Carl Weiss described the incident.
